When you partner with someone, you align with them. Perhaps you share common goals and work collectively to accomplish them. You believe in each other and your shared mission with a hope and strategy to attain the desired outcome.
When I hear the world alignment I immediately think of a vehicle. The tires on my Jeep need to be aligned to gain the maximum performance. If your car has been in an accident you need to make sure the frame is aligned before all other repairs are done. If it is not, the other work is in vain. When you are out of alignment it can cause poor performance and even a total breakdown.
This metaphor is true not just for vehicles, but also for institutions, non-profit entities and individuals. When you lose focus, get distracted you can easily sway off-course. Do this long enough and you will get totally lost or even worse the whole mission fails.
At Canterbury, we regularly have “tune-ups” to make sure we are moving in the right direction with the right goals in mind. We adjust to the realities of the economy, the culture and needs while at the same time staying on mission.
We learn a lot from the hospitality industry, especially situated in one of the leading tourist destinations of the world. We gain insight as to operational procedures, products to be used and better organization of the tasks at hand. However we do not see ourselves aligned to the hospitality world as primary.
We see ourselves as having a ministry of hospitality. We serve our guests, our clients with a higher purpose in mind. We want to make the world a better place by helping people become their best selves. This what we are aligned to and gives merit to why people partner with us. Shouldn’t you consider being a Canterbury Partner?
Reflect: To whom are you aligned? Where perhaps are you in need of a tune-up in your own life?
(Come to Canterbury to reflect deeper. We’re a tune-up shop for the soul)!
